that, from the age of 23 to 30, I was a waitress at the Buttercup Bakery in Berkley, California making just $400 a month?

that I grew up on the south side of Chicago (the ’hood), and my Mom was a secretary who sold AVON on the side to help my Dad support the family?

to know that I had a speech impediment and that I could not pronounce my R’s S’s or T’s so words such as beautiful came out as boobital?

to know that after college I lived in my van on the streets of Berkeley California, ’til I landed my dream job as a waitress?

I did not have enough money to even rent an apartment—and rent back then was only $200 a month. The truth is, my story is not very different than many of yours. I did not grow up with money. I did not inherit money, and I did not marry money. I had no goals. Nothing was expected of me. Being a waitress was what I thought I’d always be. I tell you this...not to impress you but...to inspire you. If I can turn my life around and become who I am today, there’s not one of you out there that’s denied from being more and having more.
